Purple Prairie Clover – Dalea purpurea
$8.00
A long-lived prairie native with fat, knobby, rose-purple, thimble-shaped flowers on wiry upright stems. Listed as a superfood for the Rusty Patched Bumblebee and classified by Xerces as being of ‘special value to native bees.’ This plant also attracts and acts as a larval host to many butterflies, and birds feast on its seeds. When flowers are done blooming, Purple Prairie Clover remains attractive due to its ornamental foliage. A nitrogen-fixing plant with a deep taproot, Purple Prairie Clover is not picky about soil characteristics, as long as the site is well-drained. Does best in full sun. Often used in restoration projects, drought tolerant once established.
