Native Tufted Evening Primrose – Oenothera caespitosa

A low-growing native with large, white flowers made of four, heart-shaped petals and eight yellow stamens. The flowers open in late afternoon, close the next morning, and wither to pink or red-violet. Prefers poor soils and needs no supplemental water. Can form colonies by lateral roots, each plant grows 6 – 12 inches high and spreads from 12 to 18 inches wide. Good choice for dry gardens, rock gardens. Classified by Xerces as special value to native bees.
