Golden yellow spires of flowers are held above bright green leaves, each inflorescence holds between five and fifty flowers. Prefers sun to light shade and moist, well-drained soil. Blooms between May and August depending on the elevation, reaches two ft. in height. This member of the Fabaceae family, sometimes called the Mountain Golden Pea, grows long, thin, seed pods that are blue/green and covered with downy hair, projecting vertically from the stem. The pods grow quickly in the late spring and early summer, and mature in late summer. Forms colonies through rhizomes. Not eaten by deer, toxic to cattle and in hay.
