Great Blue Lobelia – Lobelia siphilitica

Lobelia siphilitica stands out with brilliantly blue-violet florets on spiky racemes supported by unbranched stems rising from a basal rosette. This tap rooted, clumping perennial will bring bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies to the garden. Likes to grow in filtered shade with moist soils or in sunny sites that are more wet.  Lobelias produce a secondary compound known as “lobeline,” which deters herbivores. Blooms August – September, may reach up to 3ft in height.
