Volunteer for the CoNPS Website

Interested in being a web volunteer? Email Webmaster Mo Ewing at bayardewing@gmail.com

Volunteer as a Contributor

Contributors are CoNPS volunteers who need to use the website to communicate with other members about chapter meetings, workshops, field trips, conservation projects and other events.  Contributors may also use the website membership lists to send emails to chapter members or members on their committees.   They also may assist in managing books in the bookstore and do other projects under supervision.

This category is designed for volunteers who have a job they want to accomplish on the website, but are not particularly interested in learning the finer points of the website software.

There are two major programs which run the website, WordPress and MembershipWorks (MW).  MembershipWorks runs everything to do with membership and events, and WordPress runs everything else.  Depending what you want to do you will either access WordPress or MembershipWorks.

–> We would love to have someone do short podcasts about native plants and ecosystems for our site

–> Any videos created in the chapters or committees or other CoNPS events with state-wide appeal would be welcomed

–> Each CoNPS chapter has its own page which needs to be filled with interesting announcements, articles, videos and news items about their area.

–> Every CoNPS committee has its own page that needs to be filled with interesting content such as videos on how to create a native plant garden.

–> On ou Plants and Habitats page, we would love to add descriptions of new plant communities, new articles about native plants, and interesting information to add to photo plant descriptions.

–> Or if you are a Virgo and like to organize things, we need to index all past issues of Aquilegia, put all of our old research reports on line, and create photo galleries of native plants.

Help Run our Website

Our CoNPS website runs on the WordPress platform, which is one of the most popular platforms on the web for building blog- and websites.  We chose WordPress because it is easy to use and does not require any coding to create the site.

All of our membership activities, events, CoNPS store and donation management is handled by a plugin called MembershipWorks.  This plugin is also very user-friendly and is used by chapter presidents, committee chairs and staff to manage membership and events.

Every WordPress website is based on a theme which organizes the design of the website.  We have chosen the website theme “Divi” to handle these activities.  Divi is one of the most advanced and popular themes in the WordPress world, with over 1,000,000 users world wide.  It can do virtually anything you wish on the website.  And because it has so many users, there are all sorts of instructional videos and blogs on the web.  Also there are a complete set of instructional videos provided by Divi within our website.

We are always looking for volunteers who are interested in helping us keep our website up to date.  This also includes volunteers with technical experience to help maximize our site on internet searches, improve user-friendliness of the site, or build new pages with interesting content.

And anyone can make suggestions to our webmaster on how to improve our site and make it more interesting.
