The Field Studies Conducted an inventory of the Manitou Experimental Forest on June 27, 2013. The Manitou Experimental Forest lies roughly 30 miles (48 km) northwest of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Established in 1936, its 16,700 acres (6,758 ha) straddle the Trout Creek watershed. Trout Creek is a tributary of the South Platte River.
