Mountain muhly – Muhlenbergia montana
A *warm season, perennial bunchgrass with a fibrous root system, adapted to both dry and moist conditions but requires excellent drainage. It prefers sun and soils that are sandy and loamy. Up to 3 ft. tall with light green to yellow leaves. Inflorescence is an open array of spreading or upright branches bearing small, awned spikelets that attract moths and some butterflies. New growth palatable to livestock.
*Note: Warm season, or C4, grasses begin to be active in late spring to early summer, flower and set seed in summer to early fall.
