Little Bluestem – Schizachyrium scoparium

$8.00

A mounding, *warm season bunchgrass, with narrow green or blue-green foliage. Needs full sun. Tolerates clay, gravel, sand, alkalinity, drought, heat, humidity, and moderate salinity, but must have excellent drainage. Reaches 2-4’ with 2-3’ spread over time. Blue-green leaves morph to an attractive red-bronze brown late summer. Florescence is narrow, turning golden in fall; especially beautiful when backlit by sun. Avoid planting in shade and excessive use of fertilizer or water, which will lead to weakened stems. Highly attractive to songbirds, butterflies, and other pollinators.

*Note: Warm season, or C4, grasses begin to be active in late spring to early summer, flower and set seed in summer to early fall.
