Alkali Sacaton – Sporobolus airoides
A smaller, mound-forming, *warm season grass with slender gray-green arching leaves can reach heights of up to 4 ft when in flower. Flower panicles form pyramidal silhouettes 16 inches long. Individual spikelets are yellow with purple bases. An extremely tough plant, it needs full sun, can handle most soil types and is both drought and flood-tolerant. Attracts pollinators, provides seed and cover for birds, browsed by wildlife and livestock.
*Note: Warm season, or C4, grasses begin to be active in late spring to early summer, flower and set seed in summer to early fall.
